As well as being the final symbol of our love and respect for our loved ones,
I see the funeral ceremony as a personal and social rite of passage, a potential portal to our deeper selves and as such an instrument of both closure to a life gone and the opening to the future for the living who remain. If we do it well we may go on with new insight, meaning and healing.
