I come from a background of teaching speech, drama and performance. It was by chance that I was made aware of the profession of being a funeral celebrant. It so happened that a friend of mine asked me to put together a ceremony for his father. It meant creating a ceremony that reflected his father’s life and character. It was a moving service that brought the warmth of celebration to an otherwise sad occasion. Afterwards people told me how touched they had been. I was encouraged by the positive feedback for my part in the proceedings.
A few months later I was asked again to do another funeral. This time the funeral director took me to be a professional celebrant and many of those attending also. This made me think seriously about doing it as a profession. And so I took the Green Fuse training. This has given me a thorough foundation for my new work.
In this country a great deal of freedom is available when it comes creating/choosing the kind of funeral ceremony you feel to be appropriate.
My aim as an independent funeral celebrant is to create a ceremony that is filled with a loving and inclusive atmosphere; a ceremony that harmonises with your family’s wishes and brings to expression the values, character and life journey of your loved one.

Many thanks for presiding over my father’s funeral on Tuesday. It was obviously a difficult occasion for us, but your sensitivity helped greatly. We have had many nice comments about the service, and your part in it - it is much appreciated.
All the best,
‘I am in complete awe with the way that you have put this all together. It is utterly beautiful, kind, empathetic, respectful and personal all at the same time. I think my father will be thrilled with this. Thank you so very much.I know everyone in my family will have you at the top of their list whenever they need to give a recommendation.'
Well all I can say is a massive big 'thank you ' for your support today with a lovely service for our Grandad. Your manner and your soft spoken tone during the eulogy was so appropriate. I don't know if anyone has ever told you that you have a wonderful professional manner.
